“Let’s Take A Long Walk…”

…And then some! Lol. Y’all thought I was kidding when I said I’d want to go to a farm for a date. Lol. I was for real cos like I said before, I think people need to ditch dinner as a first, second, and even third date and go for some more fun and down to earth stuff. So, here are some out-of-the-box date ideas for the brave and adventurous – neither of which I consider myself to be but ah well, who’s checking! :p

·         Fishing
·         Cycling
·         Apple picking (Ok, so we don’t have apples to pick in this part of the world but you get the point :p)
·         Cooking class (A guy friend of mine said this is a bit much. Hehe)
·         Museum hopping
·         Painting class
·         A long walk
·         Live football (or basketball, hockey, etc.) match*
·         Sightseeing
·         Pottery class
·         Ice-skating**
·         Rollerblading**
·         Art Gallery hopping
·         Visit a book store***
·         Visit your alma maters***
·         Visit the zoo***

Notice that all these activities involve talking, for the most part. Ok, maybe not the cycling one but hey. The idea is to engage in an unconventional, fun, relaxed environment with the goal of getting to know the person. Don’t get me wrong, the dinner date works for some people but I just feel like if it’s the first time you’re going out with this person, something a little more relaxing and engaging would probably work better. So, when a guy or girl asks you what to do on a date, please by all means, feel free to refer to this list :D
So, what other unconventional date ideas can you think of? (I’ll keep adding to the list as I think of some)

*He might not let you talk much during the match but you’ll see a side of him you have to be sure you can live with (that’s thinking way ahead but it’s all good!) LOL!!!

  3. I'm the kind of person who absolutely loves stuff like these, and where I come from they're close to normal things you could do with a guy; dinner is very rare there, LOL! I'm not familiar with the Lagos map so please give us names and locations of where some of these activities could be found.
Err, I don't think fishing is a good idea, considering the current flooding issue in Nigeria, haha! Just saying.

    1. Hey Fionnuala, where are you from? I'm hoping someone can tell me where I can do those things. Lol!

    2. You'd be surprised, but its Jos, Plateau, Nigeria! Long walks, football watching, cycling and sightseeing are quite popular there. We used to do lots of mountain climbing too - until telecoms took over with their masts, lol!
Sadly the recurrent crises has turned our beautiful city into some dreaded place, but the nostalgia remains...

    3. Awwww, I hear Jos is really nice. May peace be restored soon by God's grace.

  4. Picnic
Strawberry Picking (much bending in fields and more romantic and delicious than apples)
    Ice Skating
    Rollerblading

With the last two, you get to fall over each other a lot.

PS. You have a spelling error. It should be "Sightseeing" and it's one word.

    1. Rollerblading!! Yes! I have a pair of rollerblades! Thanks, will add that to the list. Hehehe, I thought there was something wrong with the spelling. Cheers!

  5. Aderonke, ok after a long day, lagos traffic , maybe feet rubbing should be part of this list. Also, which kind of farm oh , Museum hopping, do we still have any? Personally, dates should be realistic, yes down to earth and relaxing but that your list...Let's save for non-Nigerian guys..Just saying too

    1. Lol @ feet-rubbing! That's for later ;)Any kind of farm. Yes, there are many museums! You gotta think outside box. Most of the stuff is realistic :)

  6. Items 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 aren't doable here. Where are you going to fish? And there's like ONE museum (maybe 2) in Lagos. No ice-skating rinks etc. But the walk idea is good. My ex-boyfriend and I once went for on a walk on a date. It was nice.

You're right though. I'm all for different date options. Let's see.... Maybe a long drive? You'd need traffic free roads for that, though. I'll think of some.

    1. Hahaha. They can be! You gotta think outside, pardon, get out of the box!!! I know someone who goes fishing. There are a few museums or you can do art galleries. Yeah, ice-skating not for here. That's not the say someone can't open one :)

  7. Hmmmmhhmmm. I need cough syrup! Funny! You left out the classic first date idea- Cinemas/Concert! Live football isn't safe in Nigeria yet.lol Museum hopping and long walk, me likey!! At least you can enjoy that in Nigeria.
You could go to a BOOKSHOP if you are an avid reader. Drive round town. Visit your alma mater together. Zoo. I just don't like the idea of dinner at a fancy restaurant too. Save your LBD for some other time, by then you'll know if the dude deserves to see you in that super gorgeous dress!:*

    1. Cinema?!! No! You can't talk and it's SO cliche!!! Great ideas!! Bookshop, alma mater, zoo! Nice! Exactly girl! Save the LBD for later! ;)
